The Shakespeare and Company Project datasets detail the operations of Shakespeare and Company, Sylvia Beach’s bookshop and lending library in interwar Paris. The first of the five datasets provides information about lending library members, including demographic and biographical information. The second focuses on member addresses. The third details the books that circulated in the lending library. The fourth includes demographic information about the books' authors. The fifth dataset focuses on the events—borrows, purchases, subscriptions, renewals, deposits, reimbursements—that connect members and books. Work on the datasets began in 2014. Three earlier versions of the member, books, and events datasets were published in 2020, 2021, 2022. The current version enhances and refines these datasets, and adds the datasets with member address and author demographics.
